What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting filiform (very thin) needles into specific points through out the body. One of the tenets of acupuncture is that energy flow can be used through the process of acupuncture to have a positive effect on the body. This happens through specific channels where the energy is located. The acupuncturist focuses on points on the channels that lie along the body. Using the thin hair like needles, they insert and manipulate the points to help the body release hormones and endorphins, and stimulate blood flow and positive healing effects. This occurs through from the movement of energy through the channels

History of Acupuncture

Acupuncture became better known to western culture during the 1970's. Since the 1970's it has become recognized as a leading form of alternative medicine. Does Acupuncture Hurt?

The short answer is no. The needles that are used in acupuncture treatment are hair thin, there is no pain involved in the insertion or in the manipulation. Can Acupuncture Worsen My Condition?

Acupuncture will not worsen a pre-existing condition. There is no evidence that suggests that acupuncture will increase negative effects of any condition. As with any therapeutic treatment there is some risk, to include bruising and bleeding at the acupuncture site, but the risk is considered minimal when applied by a well trained practitioner. How Many Acupuncture Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments vary from person to person. It may be one or two treatments a month for a few months or one or two treatments a week for a few months.
