Immune Conditions

Immune conditions come in many different forms. There are three basic types: autoimmune conditions, allergies and asthma, and immune deficiency syndromes. The basic function of the immune system is to be the first line of defense against any foreign invaders into the body. The above types of immune conditions occur when the first line of defense breaks down. As naturopathic doctors Arizona we are trained to recognize hidden causes for these conditions and holistic treatments for them.

Immune deficiency syndromes

All of the conditions below are the result of some deficiency in the immune system or are immune deficiency syndromes themselves. We will look at each individually and explain why they are in this category and explain some natural immune system support.
  • Chronic respiratory infections
  • Valley Feverimmune conditions treated with naturopathic medicine
  • Chronic urinary tract infections
  • HIV
  • Shingles
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Cancer

Chronic respiratory infections are common in those who smoke and those with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), but what about those without either of these? Asthma and allergies can also contribute to respiratory infections and if you are getting them chronically (more than 3 times per year), you should get further evaluations for all of the above.

Poor immune function could also contribute to chronic respiratory infections. A basic blood test can show an overt immune deficiency. But with this and other standard labs showing normal levels, many are left with little options. Naturopathic doctors arizona can help with supportive immune herbs and nutrients. They can also help identify other contributing factors.

Valley Fever is a fungal infection that occurs in the southwest and fairly common in the Phoenix Valley. The fungus enters the body when the spores of Coccidiodies immitis are inhaled and lodges in the lungs. Most that are exposed to this fungus will not get valley fever because they have healthy immune systems. For those with deficient immune systems, valley fever is more likely.
